The Institute was established in the year 1995 with the aim of providing education & vocational training to mentally retarded with recognition of the fact that with proper training and facilities to such children they can be rehabilitated to adjust themselves to the demand of society. The need and importance of special education to mentally retarded children has long been realized by all educational authorities and public.
This school has grown up in several ways to meet the increasing case load and developed as a full-fledged school, Out of 150 beneficiaries 130 are hostlers the remaining 20 children are day scholars. The organization has recruited 38 members of staff as per staff pattern and guidelines from by Ministry of Social Justice, GOI during 2016-17.
Today, the goal of Pragathi Charities is to help the child with mental retardation stay in the family and take part in community life.
In most states, the law guarantees them educational and other services at public expense. We see that the child has a comprehensive evaluation to find out about his or her strengths and needs. Our Skilled professionals involved in general medical tests as well as tests in areas such as neurology (the nervous system), psychology, psychiatry, special education, hearing, speech and vision, and physical therapy treatments.
Particularly Emotional and behavioral disorders may be associated with mental retardation, and they may interfere with the child's progress. Most of our school children with mental retardation are Adolescents and young adults with mental retardation who became depressed in past their past life. These persons might not have enough language skills to talk about their feelings, and their depression may be shown by new problems, for instance in their behavior, eating and sleeping. So we take care of the cases with a professional approach by giving them the full assistance from our trained professionals in Mentally Retardation.
